The trip is planned to go through the Volga-Don river system which include certain restrictions. For instance it is not allowed to transport cargo exceeding 14 metres in height from the waterline.

"Due to the height (10 metres) and weight (175 t) of the tug boat it was a challenge to find a vessel with a suitable freight compartment. We ultimately decided to ship the tug boat as deck cargo creating some challenges regarding the line of sight on the carrier vessel as well as lashing, securing and cribbing", says Project Operations Manager Jacob Thomsen from Blue Water Esbjerg.

The tugboat was handed over in Gorinchem, Holland and sailed by own propulsion for loading which was handled in Antwerp, Belgium. Once the tugboat was on board Rickmers M/V HR Constitution, it set its course for Hayderpasa in Turkey. Here, the tugboat was transshipped to a sea/river vessel for the rest of the trip.

Both Blue Water in Esbjerg and the local Caspian office in Aktau are involved in the project.

"Aktau handled all local meetings and contract negotiations and our Caspian Sea department in Esbjerg supported them throughout the project. This is a proof, that our Caspian setup gives our clients what they are searching for - local experts who can create good solutions for their transport needs", says Jacob Thomsen.
