As part of the expansion of the Tengiz Oilfield in Kazakhstan, a 75 km CaTRo (cargo transportation route) channel has been built – providing safe passage through the shallow waters of the Caspian Sea to the offloading facilities at Prorva.
The purpose-built facilities at Prorva is the key offloading for vessels and barges transporting modules for the expansion of the oil field. Due to the special requirements for operating in the CaTRo channel and at the offloading facilities in Prorva, Blue Water Shipping is leading a consortium with Caspian Offshore Construction for the provision of 6 ASD tugs. Caspian Offshore Construction is based in Kazakhstan and is a leading provider of offshore marine fleet services in the Caspian Sea.
“We are proud to have been awarded this contract. And with Caspian Offshore Construction we have found a solid and experienced partner. We are looking forward to the cooperation, and the tugs are a very important part of the entire logistical set-up in the CaTRo and at Prorva”, states Claus V. Laursen, Blue Water’s Director for the TCO Project.
The ASD tugs will be tasked to assist barges and vessels through the 75 km long channel. Furthermore, the ASD tugs will support inside the offloading facility with other port-related work to ensure all cargo are delivered in a safe and efficient way.
