This year’s potato season looks promising. It is expected that around 20,000 tons of seed potatoes will be transported to Algeria by reefer ships which are considerably more than last year. As the season begins in October and ends approximately two months later, the Blue Water team in Brest, France must work under pressure and plan every detail to ensure their own and their clients’ success.

“We can see that the import from Algeria has grown a lot this year compared to last year. Therefore, we handle many chartering assignments, including the contractual work, when we provide our clients with the best vessels on the market. Also, as Port Agents we plan and coordinate the port calls for these time critical shipments. It is a comprehensive planning project as we have to make sure that no vessels will experience delays but will complete their loading operations as planned within the short time the season runs”, says Mogens Nielsen, Director Blue Water France.

In Denmark, Blue Water is also involved in the potato season. The Domestic Department in Taulov handles all road transports from the potato growers and from hubs all over the country to the port of Esbjerg. Here, the stevedoring department in Esbjerg takes care of the loading of the vessels.
