Blue Water's Aid & Development Logistics team in Billund has been awarded a number of shipments for the Red Cross/Crescent movement
Blue Water's Aid & Development Logistics team in Billund has been awarded a number of shipments - by air and sea - into Goma, Congo in West Africa for the Red Cross/Crescent movement through a Norwegian supplier. The commodities include sealed goggles and special long gloves to be used in the fight against the terrible Ebola virus which is spreading in the North Kivu region. If the disease spreads into the town of Goma, more than one million lives will be at risk.
“The shipments will be coordinated with assistance from Blue Water's offices in Billund, Denmark and Oslo, Norway as well as from our agent and partner in Kigali, Rwanda. As the entry and routing dictated by the consignee should give the best result and transit times, the cargo will be safely moved by truck from Kigali to Goma where customs clearance will take place at the border”, says Johnny Mortensen, Head of Blue Water’s Aid & Development Logistics team.
The aid organisations are fighting not only against Ebola, but also to help more than 4.5 million displaced people in the same region where rebels and militia are fighting against each other, against the government and against further outbreaks of cholera, dengue, meningitis and other diseases.
