Bronze award for successful initiative saving millions of dollars on bunker procurement alone
Blue Water is always striving for cost efficiency. One potential area for cost cutting is the procurement of bunker fuel for the fleet of 17 Module Carrying Vessels (MCVs) operating from Bulgaria and Finland via the Russian Inland Waterways (RIWS) to Kazakhstan. By constantly monitoring the market movement and making use of our historical data, we have carried out a joint analysis of our procurement pattern. A significant finding was that by deviating the MCVs on their return voyage and taking them via Bautino, Kazakhstan instead of the direct route via Astrakhan, Blue Water was able to save between 2.5-3 million USD on bunker procurement alone.
This saving will only apply on our Finland bound MCVs due to the distance of the RIWS. We will, however, continue to look for cost saving opportunities throughout our total scope of work.
To show their appreciation for a successful cost saving initiative, TCO presented Blue Water’s Bunker Manager, Kevin Lundgaard, with a Bronze Award at the monthly townhall at the TCO offices in Farnborough, UK.
Needless to say that we are very proud of the recognition.
