Record volumes of sea freight to Greenland

Blue Water’s teams in Denmark and Greenland provide safe and timely delivery under different and challenging conditions

Recently, Blue Water has experienced a rise in the volumes of sea freight to Greenland. Despite the Corona crisis, March showed a significant increase in bookings and quantities compared to 2019, and in spite of the crisis, we manage to maintain quality and perform timely shipment of the customers’ goods.

“Naturally, we are proud that we have succeeded in shipping the large quantities and at the same time maintaining our usual high standard for quality and precision despite the fact that all processes are carried out under different conditions than normally. All our employees – from the terminal staff to the office personnel in both Denmark and Greenland – have been ready as well as willing to adapt themselves to the present and rather demanding conditions with many restrictions and limitations”, says Ole Bøgh Ulriksen, who is responsible for Blue Water’s Greenland activities.

“In 2020, we have the whole time been under stronger pressure than usual with large volumes and many shipments. The Corona situation has made it necessary to work in shifts, to work at completely different hours, and we have handled tasks that we are not used to handling. This has been a challenge for us together with all the concerns about the Corona progression.
Thanks to a strong teamwork and team spirit as well as great willingness to help each other, we have succeeded in performing on time, because we WILL succeed”, says a proud Alf Hansen, Terminal Assistant at Blue Water’s terminal in Aalborg.

A large part of Blue Water’s office personnel in both Denmark and Greenland has also been working under different conditions. Many of these colleagues have managed the daily work processes from their home office, parallel with acting as schoolteachers helping their children with their homework or helping their minor children with other needs. But in spite of that, they have all succeeded in performing their job to full extent.

In Greenland, the colleagues have efficiently arranged safe distribution, and delivery – also under different and demanding circumstances.
“Upon arrival of the goods, we have made sure to be on the dot taking care that onward distribution and delivery have been performed without unnecessary delay.  To accomplish this, many of the colleagues have had to work longer hours. The team spirit in Blue Water is always strong, and in times like these, it has grown even stronger. However, we do hope things will begin to return to normalcy”, says Lars Vajse, Director, Blue Water Greenland.

“It is a good thing that we are used to working in the tough Greenland climate, but this winter has been extremely cold. We have been challenged in various ways when driving the truck through snow hills and heaps of ice to deliver the customers’ goods. Roadability as well as timely delivery have been put to the test when snow clearing has been scarce, but we will always make sure that the goods are delivered with a smile whatever the conditions”, says Daniel Jakobsen, who works as a Driver at Blue Water Nuuk.
