Efficient air transport between EU and China
Blue Water and SAS Cargo’s direct air freight route between Denmark and China runs safely and efficiently
We have made a great effort to establish the direct freight route between Copenhagen and Shanghai, but each flight from Shanghai also requires a lot of work to ensure that the customers' cargo arrive at the airport in Shanghai – and onwards with the flights to Copenhagen.
"We assessed the need for a fast, reliable and fixed scheduled flight, which is why we established two regular return flights per week. Since we have 100 percent control over the capacity on the flights, it gives our customers a high degree of assurance that they can get deliveries of their cargo as planned. And the first four flights have gone smoothly according to plan, so we are proud to be able to help our customers – and are also pleased to see that new customers are showing great interest", says Airfreight Manager Jonas Espersen from Blue Water.
However, he points out that one of the major challenges has been getting the cargo to Shanghai Airport in a timely manner and getting it through customs clearance. There has indeed been a long wait for customs clearance as the Chinese customs authorities have increased controls of exported goods.
"We solve all handling in China in cooperation with our long-standing partner and agent, Cargo Services Airfreight. Their experience and competences are extra valuable to Blue Water and our customers right now, as there are many irregularities in the flow of goods. So far, everything has proceeded according to plan in relation to our flights."
The strong joint setup between Blue Water, SAS Cargo and Cargo Service Airfreight has thus helped several companies to get their goods and supplies transported quickly between Europe and China. Among other things, protective equipment for the Region of Southern Denmark formed a major part of the first flight from China, but there is a strong demand for transports of both ordinary consumer goods and industrial goods.

We have scheduled flights from Shanghai every Wednesday and Sunday until the end of May. There is a high demand for capacity right now, and we therefore consider whether the flights should be extended into June. Consequently, Blue Water has dialogues with several companies about solutions that can meet the required flexibility, capacity and safety.
