After seven weeks of competition, the 2026 GFF–Blue Water Shipping Guyana U-15 Girls' Secondary School National Championship concluded with Annai Secondary successfully defending its national title.
But the story of this year's championship extends far beyond the final whistle. The championship brought together girls from across Guyana to represent their schools and communities. Along the way, they gained confidence, formed new friendships, and developed skills that extend beyond football.
A record-breaking season
This record-breaking season brought together 80 secondary schools and approximately 1,600 student-athletes from across Guyana, making it the largest edition of the championship to date. Over the course of 111 matches, girls from both coastal and hinterland communities proudly represented their schools on the national stage, showcasing exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship. Along the way, they built confidence, developed leadership and teamwork skills, forged lasting friendships, and gained experiences that will remain with them long after the tournament has ended.
The championship also united families, teachers, coaches, volunteers, and entire communities in support of the participating teams. The overwhelming encouragement from supporters demonstrated the growing impact of girls' football in Guyana and highlighted the important role sport plays in bringing communities together while creating opportunities for young people to grow both personally and athletically.
Reflecting on the tournament, Blue Water Shipping Senior Vice President of Sales & Development, Richard DeNobrega, captured the spirit of the championship: "The future is indeed bright, and the future is in every one of you young ladies that participated in this tournament. While there will always be a winner and a loser, today we have 1,600 winners who are champions of football for Guyana."
Those words embody what this championship represents. While medals were awarded and champions celebrated, every participant leaves as a winner—having developed new skills, strengthened their confidence, and demonstrated resilience, discipline, and teamwork. These are qualities that will continue to serve them in the classroom, on the football field, and throughout their future careers.
As another successful season comes to a close, its legacy will be measured not only by the trophies lifted but by the lives touched, the opportunities created, and the next generation of young women inspired to pursue their ambitions with confidence.
