Blue Water Sisimiut celebrates 25 years
To mark the 25-year anniversary, Blue Water Sisimiut has donated DKK 25,000 on behalf of the Blue Water Foundation to support Assaqutaq Nuan.

On Wednesday, Blue Water celebrated 25 years in Sisimiut. Together with local guests, suppliers and the team, the milestone was marked with an informal celebration featuring hot dogs and drinks. After 25 years, the office remains a key landmark for the local community and logistics in the area. Originally acquired from a fishing client, the office and warehouse marked the beginning of Blue Water’s operations in Sisimiut. While the location has remained the same, both the office and warehouse have since been rebuilt to modernise and expand operations.
“Sisimiut is a fairly isolated town in Greenland, with fewer than six thousand inhabitants. We’re the only logistics provider with a permanent office here, and after 25 years, we’ve become part of the community. We know the local business owners and residents by name and have built personal relationships within the town. The reliability we offer is essential for day-to-day life in Sisimiut,” says Curtis Chapman, Manager Blue Water Sisimiut.
Supporting the local economy
Blue Water Sisimiut supports the timely delivery of goods to local shops, handles medical samples for the hospital, and assists various local businesses. The office is small but busy, with six employees handling various tasks, including transport, warehousing, agency services and local distribution.
“We have a versatile team that works together, especially during the busy season from around June to October when activities such as agency work for cruise ships and trawlers increase. Everyone puts in extra effort to manage the workload effectively,” adds Chapman.
In 2013, Blue Water also managed the logistics for the expansion of Sisimiut’s harbour. “We were responsible for transporting materials for the new harbour, which has had a positive impact on the town’s infrastructure. It can now accommodate larger vessels, including cruise ships, improving connectivity and economic opportunities,” says Kenneth Skovbjerg Pedersen, Head of Operations North Atlantic at Blue Water.
Another milestone was Blue Water’s involvement in the construction of a hydroelectric power plant using water from the Tasersuaq natural lake in 2006-2008. Blue Water secured the logistics contract for the project, managing the transport of heavy machinery and materials from Europe and China. “It was a big project for us. We completed it on time, and it remains a significant achievement for the team, one we still talk about,” adds Skovbjerg Pedersen.
