Responsibility that reaches beyond our business. That is one of the cornerstones in Blue Water’s values and DNA. This is made visible in the recently published Sustainability Report 2023, showing last year’s developments on Environment, Social and Governance (ESG).

Tackling ESG challenges requires more than words; it demands deep implementation and tangible results. Adapting to the reporting standards set by the European Union, Blue Water’s work with ESG reporting have become more transparent and of higher quality within the last years.

Throughout 2023, we have intensified our work with essential achievements and ambitions, shaping our journey towards a more sustainable company. In the operations, we have for long been looking into screening and integration of more sustainable transport and logistics solutions and partnerships. However, anchoring broadly-based ESG action for long-term values is ongoing. Key milestones of 2023 cover:

  • Signing the UN Global Compact
  • Preparing for 2025 legal requirements by CSRD readiness and CSRD gap analysis
  • Committing to the Science Based Targets initiative with 2030 decarbonisation commitment
  • Conducting supplier risk analysis of top 100-suppliers

The road has only just begun

“In 2023, we among other things committed to the Science Based Targets initiative, and through our updated double-materiality approach we continue to evolve our overall sustainability programmes to support the most material topics for Blue Water. Our internal engagements, frameworks and visions are set, however, we still have a lot to do when it comes to delivering on our short and long-term targets”, explains Søren N. Thomsen, CEO of Blue Water.

At Blue Water, a cross-functional sustainability team has been established to monitor and report on ESG, carry out cross-business unit coordination and annual double materiality assessments, including wide stakeholder involvement. Operating under the Blue Water’s Extended Management Board, the team ensures direct reporting and accountability to the highest levels of management.

In 2024, Blue Water will strengthen focus on developing transport and logistics offerings for reduced or compensated carbon emissions as well as developing diversity and inclusion directions and ambitions.
