Transport and loading of 300-tonne blade yoke at the Port of Esbjerg

Our Port Services team handled the move using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) from our in-house fleet

The Port Service team in Esbjerg recently transported a 300-tonne blade yoke at the port. A complex operation, not only because of its weight, but also because of its size. At 24 metres long, 10 metres wide and 17 metres high, the transport had to navigate through tight spaces with clearances of less than 5 cm in some areas.

Our Port Services team handled the move using self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) from our in-house fleet. As well as having access to our own equipment, the transport programming, configuration and transport calculations were all done in-house, ensuring fast and accurate execution.

The entire operation - from planning to execution - was completed in just one week. The team conducted a thorough route survey, identified potential challenges, made necessary infrastructure adjustments and coordinated traffic management, including temporary road closures. Once everything was in place, the transport was executed with precision and safety, covering 6 kilometres within the Port of Esbjerg in just 4 hours.

The next day, the team also loaded the blade yoke onto the jack-up installation vessel, ensuring a seamless, full-cycle service from quayside transport to safe loading on board.

"This operation demonstrated the all-round skills of our Port Service team. They made sure everything went as planned. It is a good example of how our in-house equipment and expertise sets us apart when it comes to handling specialised transport,” adds Mathias Juhl, Terminal Manager at Blue Water in Esbjerg.
