Blue Water awarded logistics and project management of FPSO

Blue Water Singapore has been awarded another logistics contract by SBM Offshore for their latest Fast4Ward® hull, which will support the GranMorgu FPSO project for TotalEnergies EP Suriname B.V. in Block 58, Suriname

Three vessels with successive generations of topsides can be integrated onto SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward® multi-purpose hull.

This project is part of SBM Offshore’s groundbreaking Fast4Ward® programme, which standardises and pre-fabricates FPSO hulls to reduce delivery time and cost. These hulls are constructed at China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMIH) and will be later outfitted with topside and process modules.

The top vessel showcases (shown on picture above) a second-generation topsides configuration, weighing between 10,000 and 15,000 tonnes. The middle vessel features a more complex third-generation topsides, around 24,000 tonnes, while the bottom vessel represents a future fourth-generation Fast4Ward® topsides design, with an anticipated weight of 35,000 tonnes.

Scope of Blue Water’s contribution covers:

  • global logistics management from key supply locations to China
  • embedded on-site support for SBM Offshore in Kuala Lumpur to facilitate project logistics
  • driving efficiency and integration throughout the hull construction's supply chain lifecycle.

Central to the Fast4Ward® hull programme is its focus on accelerating project delivery and reducing costs through standardised FPSO modular construction. The programme delivers tangible benefits, including lower break-even points and reduced supply chain expenses through early engagement with vendors.

“Early engagement with supply chain vendors like Blue Water is essential to the Fast4Ward® hulls' philosophy. It allows SBM offshore to focus on project delivery while we optimise supply chain and logistics efficiency at the fabrication site and ports with our local expertise,” explains Dilys Tan, Regional Head of Logistics, Floating Production Systems, Blue Water.

When completed, the FPSO will be the first large deep water project development in Suriname with an expected production capacity of up to 220,000 barrels of oil per day and associated gas treatment capacity of up to 500 million cubic feet per day. The FPSO will able to store around 2 million barrels of crude oil with first oil is expected in 2028.

"We look forward to contributing to the success of this landmark development in Suriname's offshore energy," adds Jason Goh, Regional Senior Vice President, Energy Ports & Projects, Blue Water.
