Investing in communities through the U15 Girls’ National Championship in Guyana

Building pathways for young female athletes throughout Guyana

Blue Water Shipping Guyana, in partnership with the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), has officially launched the 2026 edition of the GFF–Blue Water Shipping Guyana Under-15 Girls’ National Championship, bringing together key stakeholders including the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Rights of the Child Commission, participating schools, coaches, parents and young athletes from communities across the country.

Program Overview

The championship continues to build on its strong foundation as one of Guyana’s premier platforms for youth football development. The inaugural tournament engaged more than 900 student-athletes from 60 schools, establishing itself as the country’s largest girls’ football competition. In 2025, the initiative expanded its reach further by engaging more secondary schools and extending into hinterland communities.

For 2026, organisers aim to build on this momentum by targeting participation from 80 schools nationwide and further strengthening the tournament’s national footprint.

Community Engagement

At its core, the initiative reflects a shared commitment to investing in communities by expanding access to opportunities for young girls across Guyana. By reaching students in both coastal and hinterland regions, the championship ensures that talent is identified and developed regardless of geography.

The continued success of hinterland schools highlights the importance of extending opportunities beyond traditional centres of activity, reinforcing the programme’s inclusive, community-first approach.

“We are proud to support a programme that contributes to youth development, girls’ participation in sport and community-building,” said Rowena Elliott, Manager at Blue Water Shipping Guyana. “As a company operating in Guyana’s growing logistics and energy-support landscape, we recognise that development is not only about infrastructure and industry, but also about people: building capacity, creating opportunities and investing in the next generation.”

The GFF–Blue Water Shipping Guyana U15 Girls’ National Championship remains a critical platform for empowering young female athletes, strengthening communities and advancing the future of football in Guyana.

As the 2026 tournament gets underway, stakeholders across the country remain united in their commitment to supporting the next generation of girls and ensuring they all have the opportunity to play, grow and succeed.
