Changed inspection rules for shipments to and from China
Blog
As of 1 August 2025, China has introduced new rules for the inspection of both imported and exported goods. Even goods that were previously not subject to mandatory inspection may now be selected for random checks. The purpose of this change is to strengthen safety, compliance and quality assurance in trade with China.
We understand that changes in customs and inspection regulations can feel challenging, but with the right planning and support, you can minimise delays and avoid unnecessary costs.
What does this mean for you as a customer?
The change may affect your shipments in several ways:
- Higher likelihood of inspection for the listed goods, both on import and export.
- Longer handling times at customs may result in shipments missing scheduled vessel or flight departures.
- Increased logistics costs due to delays or rescheduling of transports.
Goods that may be subject to random inspection:
- Import: school supplies, children’s products, electronic products, household appliances, low-voltage devices and accessories.
- Export: children’s toys, lighting fixtures, low-voltage devices and clothing.
This change is based on China’s General Administration of Customs, Announcement No. 150 of 2025. The random inspections are expected to both increase the inspection frequency and extend lead times at customs, making it especially important to plan shipments with longer margins than before.
How you can prepare:
- Plan further ahead: Allow extra lead time for clearance and anticipated checks.
- Check documentation: Ensure all customs documents, invoices and descriptions are complete and accurate.
- Consult your logistics partner: Blue Water can help you identify risk goods, provide advice on procedures and ensure that shipments run as smoothly as possible.
