Blue Water expands by 200,000 m² at Port of Esbjerg
With the new premises, Blue Water gains a key position in the handling of wind components for North Sea wind projects
Blue Water strengthens its position at the south harbour in Esbjerg with a significant expansion of its premises. The company has entered into an agreement with the Port of Esbjerg to take over a 200,000 m² area, which will be incorporated into Blue Water's extensive wind turbine operations.
The first 20,000 m² is expected to be taken over in November 2025, while the rest of the area will be ready in the second quarter of 2026. The entire area has been raised to an elevation of 7 metres, which means that it is future-proofed against high tides for the next 100 years.
"The new area is a unique chance for us to meet the growing demand from the wind industry. The Port of Esbjerg plays a key role in the development of offshore wind in the North Sea, and the expansion makes sure we can deliver the facilities and capacity our customers want," says Per Jensen, Director Port Service at Blue Water.
Blue Water already has significant areas at its disposal in the south harbour, including 75,000 m² at the company's onshore wind turbine terminal and 25,000 m² with Esbjerg Tubular Service.
Blue Water will also soon take over the remaining areas in connection with the upcoming 160,000 m² RoRo terminal, which handles regular traffic to the United Kingdom, Belgium and Spain.
An investment in the future
The new area will play an important role in Blue Water's 2030 strategy, in which investments in port services and wind logistics are key growth areas. The expansion comes at a time when the wind industry is experiencing strong growth, driven by the green transition and major investments in North Sea wind farms.
"It is crucial that we take the steps now to ensure our customers have access to the right facilities in the future. With this area, we are not only strengthening Blue Water's own position, but we are also helping the Port of Esbjerg maintain its role as Europe's most important logistics hub for offshore wind," emphasises Per Jensen.
With this agreement, Blue Water has secured the last large vacant area in the port's south harbour, further cementing the company's role as a key player in the development of wind logistics in Denmark and beyond.
