Complex transport of Siemens Gas Turbine
Blue Water has completed successful overland, specialised transport of a steam turbine “super-load” for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI)
First leg of the transport was a 60-mile route from Industrial Terminal Houston to MHI’s facility in Pearland, Houston, Texas for packaging. The second and last leg, a circuitous route of 310 miles, went from Pearland to BASF Refinery in Port Arthur, Texas.
Several months in advance, planning had taken place to conduct route surveys, review route obstructions and obtain super load permits for the steam turbine (8.32 m x 7.13 m X 6.04 m/115,8 tons). During the entire transport, the turbine was under escort of two civilian escorts, a high pole truck, six police motorcycles and four bucket trucks working ahead along the route.
“We are very pleased to have been awarded this project by Mitsubishi and proud of the safe and successful execution, which again proves our in-house engineering and transport capabilities related to complex and challenging projects in the Gulf Coast region“, says Brent Patterson, Regional Managing Director (America’s), Oil, Gas and Industrial Projects, Blue Water Shipping.
