Blue Water’s Agency department in Copenhagen has been involved in an interesting assignment of replacement of MES life raft (Marine Evacuation System which can accommodate around 800 people) on board the cruise ship “Norwegian Getaway”, owned by Norwegian Cruise Line. It was the first time this type of operation took place in Copenhagen.

Soon after the ship’s arrival, the life raft, to be replaced, was released and formed part an evacuation training, in which 200 crew members participated. Afterwards the raft was packed, lifted on to a truck and returned to the supplier, Survitec in Holland, for recertification.

“Subsequently, a barge and tug arrived, and by means of boom lift, fork-lift and mobile crane, the new life raft was installed on to the ship’s side. Everything went as planned, and thanks to an efficient teamwork and favorable weather, the operation was completed ahead of schedule. The raft supplier, the ship and the cruise line were all highly satisfied, and we have proved that we can manage this type of operation in Copenhagen”, says a proud Hans Chen Braas from Blue Water’s Port Agency & Cruise team in Copenhagen.

Blue Water was responsible for the coordination with the port and pilots, supplying barge, mobile crane, boom lift, forklift, truck crane and manpower.
